(1) | As of December 1, 2016, the Issuer acquired Post Properties, Inc. ("Post") pursuant to the Agreement and Plan of Merger dated as of August 15, 2016, by and among Mid-America Apartment Communities, Inc., Mid-America Apartments, L.P., Post Properties, Inc., Post GP Holdings, Inc. and Post Apartment Homes, L.P. ("Merger"). Post's outside administrator for the employee 401(k) plan held Post stock in a pooled fund as a participant investment option. Participant contributions designated to be invested in Post common stock were accounted for as units of interest in the issuer fund. Pursuant to the merger, each share of Post common stock was converted to .71 share of MAA common stock. As of December 1, 2016, participants were no longer able to contribute to this fund. On December 12, 2016, the registrant transferred his investment balance out of the pooled fund. |
