The report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 for National Western Life Insurance Company ("Company") is not able to be filed on a timely basis without unreasonable effort and expense. The Company is in the process of implementing new financial reporting systems necessitating additional time and effort for validating the accuracy and propriety of the financial output used in preparing its financial statements for the quarter ended in March 31, 2010. The Company represents that it will complete the preparation of its financial statements and file its Form 10-Q no later than the fifth calendar day following its prescribed due date of May 10, 2010.
