P&G Named One of Most Admired Companies

Procter & Gamble has been named the 10th Most Admired Company in America, the 6th Most Admired Company in the world and the #1 Most Admired Company in the category of Household and Personal Products, in a recent survey conducted by Fortune magazine.

More than 15,000 executives, Board members and senior securities analysts were asked to rate hundreds of companies around the world on eight key attributes: innovation, financial soundness, use of corporate assets, long-term investment, people management, quality of management, social responsibility and quality of products/services.

What the most admired companies do best, according to Fortune, is to avoid "commodity hell, where everyone looks the same." In the case of P&G, the company "has recharged its sway with consumers and challenged the encroachment of store brands... circling the wagons around super brands like Tide and Pampers (and soon, it hopes, Gillette razors)."

In other rankings, Dell, General Electric and Starbucks were voted the top three U.S. companies. The top three worldwide were General Electric, Wal-Mart and Dell.
