On January 23, 2006, Century Bancorp, Inc. announced that Marshall M. Sloane informed the Board of
Directors that at the April meeting of the Board, following the Annual Meeting, he will recommend
that the Board elect his two sons, Barry and Jonathan Sloane as Co-CEO’s of Century Bancorp, Inc.
Marshall Sloane will continue to serve as Chairman of Century Bancorp, Inc. and Century Bank and
Trust Company. The press release announcing the plan is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
