CHICAGO - January 16, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Lynnette Procopio as a 2019-2020 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in technology. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with nearly one million members, 1000+ in person and virtual events, over 100 Local US-based Chapters and International Chapters in several cities in China.

“I’m pleased to welcome Lynnette into this exceptional group of professional women,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”

Lynnette Procopio was inspired by her mother to pursue a career in technology at a time when few women were entering that field. “My mother, a high school graduate, foresaw in the early 1980s the next industrial revolution—technology—when her effectiveness increased for her employer after her typewriter was replaced with a Commodore 64 personal computer,” she recalled. “After that, I decided I wanted to be part of something that made the world modern. My parents' support of my push against cultural norms to pursue data systems and coding studies in a male-dominated education system made it possible to live my dream.”

Today, Ms. Procopio is Manager of Technology Support Services at Kansas City Public Schools, a position she has held for nearly one year. Prior to her promotion, Ms. Procopio served as the Manager of Enterprise Data Systems for ten years. “I am responsible for bringing technology tools, training and support to Kansas City Public Schools,” she said. “I strive to empower faculty, staff, and students through technology to learn and work in the 21st-century.”

A Kansas City native, Ms. Procopio has 26 years of experience in technology. Using her skills and expertise, she has had an enormous impact on her community through coding, leading technology solutions, and supporting teachers and district staff in fulfilling technology needs to educate thousands of college and career-ready students.

“Technology is undoubtedly transforming education, modernizing it,” Ms. Procopio said. “It’s been rewarding to be part of transitioning from paper-bound books to Chromebooks, from time-consuming, cumbersome scoring assessments and grade calculation to computers doing the heavy lifting and integrating technologies to expand learning beyond the classroom and community. Unfortunately, girls’ enrollment into technology classes still lags behinds the boys, just as in the 1980s. Finding diverse tech teachers and mentors have been a challenge to prepare current students (and tomorrow’s workforce).”

Passionate about mentoring women and girls and helping them find success in the technology field, Ms. Procopio is active in the movement to close the gender gap in STEM careers. In her role as Director of Community Outreach for Kansas City Women in Technology (KCWiT), she assists community members starting their technology programs to expose girls and women to computing.
