Molina Healthcare Partners With Winchester Care and Rehabilitation to Trial New Palarum 'Smart Sock' Technology to Improve Patient Safety

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio - June 7, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

Molina Healthcare of Ohio and Winchester Care and Rehabilitation are conducting a trial evaluation of Palarum's new patient “smart sock,” specifically designed to help health care facilities reduce patient falls.

The trial is being conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Palarum’s PUP® (The Patient Is UP) smart sock. The Palarum PUP® technology is a revolutionary patient sock that incorporates eTextile materials and IoT technologies. The system also uses a proprietary smart badge that provides real-time alerts to the nearest staff, letting them know a patient who has been identified as high-risk for falls is out of bed, standing and/or attempting to walk unassisted.

"Molina Healthcare is continuously looking for innovative solutions to improve the care of our members,” said Donna Sickler, Vice President of Healthcare Services at Molina Healthcare of Ohio. "When we learned of Palarum's innovative new PUP smart sock, we wanted to pilot its use with one of our provider partners. We anticipate that the PUP sock technology will not only help us reduce member falls but also provide valuable insight on additional ways we can improve the quality of care for members during their stay at the facility."

This is an innovative collaboration between a managed care organization, provider and medical device start-up company. Molina Healthcare, Palarum, and Winchester Care and Rehabilitation are working closely together in a joint effort to improve comprehensive health care outcomes.

“We are excited to partner with Molina and Winchester Care and Rehabilitation to demonstrate the benefits of our patented PUP sock technology,” said Patrick Baker, Palarum founder and CEO. “Fall prevention is a top priority for everyone involved in patient care with almost every organization creating internal project teams to address the issue. We believe our Palarum PUP smart socks provide an innovative, easy-to-use, data-driven approach to increasing patient safety and reducing falls.”

"We welcome the opportunity to trial new innovations like the Palarum’s Smart Sock® that will enhance our ability to provide a safer, more secure environment for our patients and staff,” said D. Marie Hooper, Administrator and Executive Director for Winchester Care and Rehabilitation. “The excitement generated by this revolutionary technology is palpable throughout the facility. We are honored to have been selected for this invaluable project.
