Consumer inflation posts biggest increase in 7 months on higher gasoline costs, CPI shows

Americans paid higher prices for gasoline, medical treatment and recreation in October, but inflation more broadly remained low and fairly stable. The consumer price index jumped 0.4% in October, with energy accounting for more than half the increase.
