Introduces Sportsbox AI Motion Intelligence (SAMI) AI Assistant in the Sportsbox 3DGolf app, powered by Google Cloud’s AI
Today, a group of investors led by professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau announced its acquisition of Sportsbox AI, a leader in kinematic AI technology and 3D motion capture for coaching and training across mobile sports and fitness applications. Alongside the acquisition, DeChambeau announced the Sportsbox AI Motion Intelligence (SAMI) AI Assistant, a new agentic AI feature within the Sportsbox app powered by Google Cloud’s AI set to debut later this year.
Built by co-founders Jeehae Lee, former LPGA Tour player, and Samuel Menaker, a veteran software engineer with over two decades of experience in artificial intelligence (AI), Sportsbox AI is the ideal partner as Bryson seeks to drive impact and accessibility in the AI training experience for golfers everywhere.
“Pushing the boundaries of data and technology has always been a huge part of how I approach the game, but this goes beyond performance,” said Bryson DeChambeau. “This is about making golf more accessible, especially premium coaching. With Sportsbox AI and Google Cloud, we're building something that brings real coaching to anyone with a smartphone, not just elite players. That's what gets me fired up.”
The Technology: 3D Motion Meets AI
At the heart of this announcement is SAMI AI Assistant, a sophisticated interface that will bridge the gap between raw data and actionable coaching.
SAMI is a new AI agent layer in Sportsbox AI's mobile application product, which leverages patented 3D motion technology to transform any smartphone-captured swing into a fully rendered 3D model. SAMI understands and analyzes thousands of 3D biomechanical data for each swing and delivers precise, personalized coaching insights in a matter of seconds.
By leveraging Google’s Gemini models, Sportsbox AI evolves from a passive measurement tool into a proactive AI agent. Gemini’s multimodal reasoning allows SAMI to process the 3D model and communicate with the golfer, providing real-time, conversational insights. Users will be able to engage with SAMI as a virtual coach, ask specific questions about their swing or equipment, and receive tailored prescriptive advice that adapts to their unique performance goals.
“As a former player, I’ve always wanted to demystify the process around improving one’s game,” said Jeehae Lee, Sportsbox AI co-founder. “What am I doing well? What do I need to get better at? And more specifically, what actually changes in my swing when I hit well, versus when I don’t? That’s the piece that has traditionally been a mystery without the right data. Our work with Bryson proves that 3D motion data – when delivered via easy to understand insights and instructions – can provide real, positive outcomes for one’s mechanics. And now with SAMI, we’re accelerating that process in such a way that it can be utilized by every golfer and coach.”
While the acquisition makes Sportsbox AI a DeChambeau-led venture, the technical collaboration with Google Cloud remains a cornerstone of the product’s innovation.
“Our collaboration with Sportsbox AI is an example of how agentic AI can help democratize elite coaching,” said Granville Valentine, managing director, North America Generative AI, Google Cloud. “By using the multimodal reasoning capabilities of Gemini, Sportsbox is able to provide golfers with near real-time, prescriptive coaching. We are thrilled to see our AI helping athletes at every level unlock their full potential by turning data into directed action.”
A New Era for Athletic Training
The acquisition and new SAMI integration reflect DeChambeau’s broader vision to bridge the shift towards predictive, data-driven optimization and more accessible training tools for athletes at every level. This milestone also builds upon the ongoing work between DeChambeau and Google Cloud to explore the frontiers of athletic performance. Sportsbox AI will continue its ongoing technical collaboration with Google Cloud, focusing on enhancing the user experience through cutting-edge AI.
Bryson was advised on the acquisition by Steve Argeris, Nicholas Doloresco, and Joseph Erdos of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and by Fortified Partners.
