Other Events ------------ On October 29, 2003, shareholders of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. ("New York Community") and Roslyn Bancorp, Inc. ("Roslyn") approved the Agreement and Plan of Merger dated June 27, 2003 pursuant to which Roslyn will merge with and into New York Community. The merger is expected to become effective after the close of business on October 31, 2003. In addition, New York Community's shareholders approved an amendment to its certificate of incorporation increasing the amount of common stock authorized for issuance from 300 million to 600 million shares.
