The Empirical Educator Project Reinvents The Virtual Conference

By: Get News
The EEP Summit, Powered by Engageli and Co-Designed by iDesign, will bring together leaders in higher education to stimulate active and collaborative learning.

LEXINGTON, Massachusetts – September 28, 2021 – The Empirical Educator Project (EEP), an association dedicated to improving higher education through collaborative experimentation, will be holding a summit to demonstrate its vision for a new, virtual conference. The summit, in active collaboration with Engageli, an inclusive virtual learning platform and iDesign, an independent instructional design firm that partners with universities to build, grow, and support online and blended courses and degree programs, will be held on October 19-21, 2021.

Whether the concern is a global pandemic, reducing carbon footprints, or managing travel budgets at cash-strapped universities, higher education is in desperate need of a solution where professionals can gather virtually, share ideas, and connect on important projects. While the internet has been awash with conferences that consist of little more than broadcasts, participants have largely lost the opportunity for networking and real conversation.

EEP always conceived of its conference agendas as learning lesson plans with the goal of stimulating active and collaborative learning among its participants. The 2021 EEP Summit translate this experience into the virtual world, with the help of Engageli and iDesign.

In keeping with tradition, most of the event will be invitation-only for several hundred hand-picked participants. This year, the summit’s plenary sessions will be open, including a thought-provoking conversation about AI in education led by Coursera and Engageli co-founder Daphne Koller. The closed sessions will also be available after the summit; videos will be posted in an Engageli Study Hall, a virtual learning space for small group active learning sessions.

“When reconceiving our summit for the virtual world, we knew we would need help translating the EEP experience to maintain the high-quality conversation and participation educators expect and deserve from a conference,” said EEP Executive Director Michael Feldstein. “We are thrilled to have the support of the digital active learning pioneers at Engageli and learning design experts at iDesign. They’re more than partners to EEP; they’re friends of the cause. We simply could not have attempted this without them.”

“After witnessing higher education institutions and learners endure lack of collaboration and community during the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided to develop a new, purpose-built, platform for active learning to respond to the industry needs,” said Dan Avida, co-founder and CEO of Engageli. “We are excited to extend the value of the Engageli platform to EEP to help create strong connections amongst industry leaders.”

“For educators who have been asked to teach and work in new and often unfamiliar environments, the events of the past year have highlighted the profound importance for new forms of collaboration, community-building and resource-sharing,” said Whitney Kilgore, co-founder and CAO of iDesign. “The Empirical Educator Project has been an essential community for fostering the sort of dialogue and collaboration that will help strengthen the academic enterprise as educators prepare for an uncertain future.”

EEP, which has recently been rehomed in Argos Education, marks its third summit with this event.
