“University Applications Guide” – by Dr Anil Khare, Admissions and Career Specialist in Dubai

By: Zexprwire

Dubai, UAE, 24th Nov 2021, ZEXPRWIRE, University applications done right is an important checklist in an IBDP student’s life. Applying to the right courses and the right universities go a long way in ensuring that you attain success in your degree as well as your career. Dr Anil Khare, leading admissions counsellor in the Middle East, outlines the steps required to apply to universities in this “University Applications Guide”:

Take time to choose right

Choosing the right university and the right course to do is the first step to university applications. While selecting the course, one needs to consider the subjects of study in the course, the assessment style and see if the course has any specific grade level. It may be beneficial to choose those courses that offer work experience after graduation as well as extracurricular activities that aid in personal development.

University choice may be influenced by location, financial requirements, and the environment of the university, such as if it is in the midst of the city or the countryside.

There are open days and virtual open days when the student can visit or speak with student support officials or other students already at university to learn more about the university and the courses offered.

Be aware of the key deadlines

Make a note of the key dates for applications so that the deadlines are not missed. For most of the undergraduate courses beginning in 2022, you must submit your application on the 26th of January, 2022, by 6pm GMT. All applications that come in by this date are given the same priority.

Learn the requirements for entry

The criteria that the students need to meet for gaining admission are known as entry requirements. Each university differs in their individual entry requirements as listed on the university website. General entry requirements may include qualifications such as GCSEs or A Levels, admission tests, or work portfolios.

Get your application started

Once the course and the university have been decided upon, get started with your application process. Application forms include personal details, education and qualifications. A reference should be included in the application as well.

Personal statement

The Personal Statement is your opportunity to show how you stand out from the rest of the applicants. This is the only part of the application process that is completely in your hands. Do your research and demonstrate your achievements and your drive to study at the chosen university.

Wait in patience

Though there is no specific date for any response from universities, it would help to know that for applications that are submitted on the 26th of January, the result will mostly be out by the 19th of May, 2022. This time can be utilised by doing research on accommodation and student life or practising for interviews in case you get through.
