Techonomy Hosts its First Climate Conference on March 29 in Mountain View, California

By: Issuewire

Techonomy Climate: Tech Confronts the Crisis aims to help focus tech industry action around the climate crisis, highlighting innovative technologies, urgent company responses, and policies for rapid climate progress.

Mountain View, California Feb 15, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - New York-based Techonomy Media today announces its first Techonomy Climate conference, hosted in partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund, one of the world's leading environmental organizations. The in-person event, Techonomy Climate: Tech Confronts the Crisis, will be on March 29 at the brand new Ameswell Hotel in Mountain View, California, from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Techonomy is a division of Clarim Media.

"This conference is deliberately located in the heart of Silicon Valley, just minutes from the offices of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and LinkedIn," says Techonomy founder David Kirkpatrick, "to underscore the opportunity and responsibilities of the tech industry, as we collectively step up to the urgent task of cutting the world's greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030." That target was set in the Paris Climate Accords because otherwise, the degradation of the earth's climate will cause unimaginably disastrous changes in weather and other natural processes.

"Environmental Defense Fund is laser-focused on scaling the most powerful climate solutions," says EDF President Fred Krupp, "so we're delighted to partner with Techonomy to bring together climate tech leaders who share that goal. Techonomy Climate: Tech Confronts the Crisis is a relative rarity in the climate space: a convening focused not on what's broken but on how to fix it."

EDF's Krupp will be a speaker, along with other eminent leaders, including, among others:

  • Evîn Cheikosman of the World Economic Forum, on cryptocurrencies and climate
  • Mia Diawara, Partner at Lowercarbon Capital, which invests in tech to "fix the planet"
  • Taylor Francis, Co-founder of Watershed, a newly-anointed unicorn that helps companies assess and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Bill Gross of Idealab, whose companies include Heliogen, Energy Vault, and Carbon Capture
  • Tom Ingersoll, Project Co-lead at MethaneSAT, a pioneering climate-monitoring tech project
  • Lucas Joppa, Microsoft's Chief Environmental Officer
  • Kalee Kreider, veteran climate communicator, and activist
  • Justine Lucas, Executive Director of Rihanna's Clara Lionel Foundation
  • Jeff Nesbit of Climate Nexus, a nonprofit focused on motivating climate action
  • Ryan Panchadsaram, Advisor to the Chairman at Kleiner Perkins and co-author of Speed & Scale: An Action Plan for Solving Our Climate Crisis Now
  • Suzanne Singer of Native Renewables, which provides solar power to homes on the Navajo and Hopi reservations
  • Heather Toney, Vice President for Community Engagement at EDF

All speakers and the agenda can be found on the conference website.

The good news, as the conference will make clear,  is that climate tech and innovation are exploding, and tech companies are making huge changes in how they operate. Over $37.5 billion was invested in Climate Tech in 2021 by the global venture capital industry, according to HolonIQ. As innovation around climate responsibility emerges from every corner, this conference aims to highlight and celebrate it. It should help leaders in both tech and non-tech companies better focus efforts to reduce greenhouse gasses in their operations and in the use of their products, and ultimately remove harmful gasses already in the atmosphere.

The conference will include numerous plenary sessions in the main conference room as well as breakouts. We'll serve breakfast and lunch and host a closing reception. In-person registration is available here. It's finally time to give this issue the gravity it deserves and place it firmly in the center of the tech and business dialogue.
