Uganda To Sign MoU With Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India

VELLORE – MARCH 7, 2022 – The Ugandan government would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vellore-based ‘Naruvi Hospitals’, a state-of-the-art multi super-specialty healthcare facility here, Ms. Grace Akello, Madame Ambassador of Uganda to India said today, even as she hailed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin for his all-round efforts to empower women in the state. 

Congratulating Dr. G.V. Sampath, Chairman, Naruvi Hospitals, for having established a super-specialty hospital providing the entire range of medical, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities on par with global standards, after visiting all the departments at the Hospital, Ms. Akello said she was impressed by the facilities.

The ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ has been set up in a unique, technical collaborative, knowledge-sharing partnership with the Henry Ford Health Systems, USA, under the initiative of Dr. G.V. Sampath. 

Ms. Grace Akello, who was on a visit to ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ today and participated as Chief Guest at a special function to celebrate the ‘International Women’s Day’, speaking on the occasion said, that “arrangements will be made to enable people from Uganda requiring medical assistance and treatment to be sent to ‘Naruvi Hospitals’. It has been decided to sign an MoU between Uganda and ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ for the purpose, the Ambassador added. 

Emphasizing the warm, friendly ties between India and Uganda, Ms. Akello said she could see that Indian women were increasingly occupying various positions of authority. The courage, fortitude and administrative acumen of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi had greatly impressed her, the Ambassador said. 

With more and more Indians coming to the forefront in various fields as scientific researchers, doctors, educationists, besides in industry and politics, Ms. Akello said she had been engaging herself in planning and execution of activities that would enable a similar progress among the people of Uganda. 

Commending the efforts in Tamil Nadu through policies and programmes that accorded top priority to empowering women in various fields, Ms. Akello said it was only by ensuring women’s literacy and education in a sustained manner that any country could achieve higher levels of social, economic and cultural development.

The Ambassador said she was happy to see a large number of women coming to occupy top positions of governance at various levels including in posts of Mayors in the 21 Municipal Corporations, in the recently held elections to urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu. “On behalf of Uganda, I wholeheartedly congratulate the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin for having enabled this process of women’s empowerment,” she added.  

On the occasion, Ms. Grace Akello also released a pamphlet on the full-body health check-up facilities available at ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ at concessional rate, and the first copy was received by the Hospital’s Vice-Chairperson, Ms. Anitha Sampath. 

Speaking at the function, Ms. Sophie Birungi, Officer in-charge of commercial diplomacy at the Ugandan Embassy in India, said the medical and treatment facilities available at ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ are excellent. “We have already signed MoUs’ to enable people from Uganda to undergo medical treatment in India. As ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ has all the facilities, we will also enable our people from Uganda to come for medical treatment to this hospital,” said Ms. Sophie. 

While Dr. Aravindan Nair, Chief of Medical Services, ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ welcomed all the participants including the staff to the function, the hospital’s Nephrologist, Dr. Ganga and Gynecologist Dr. Jayasheela spoke about the significance of the ‘International Women’s Day’. 

The ‘Naruvi Hospitals’ Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Manimaran, General Manager, Mr. Nithin Sampath, besides medical specialists, doctors, para-medical staff and others were among those who participated in the function. The hospital’s Executive Director, Dr. Paul Henry, proposed a hearty vote of thanks.
