Provider of Medical Spa Treatments Raises Awareness of Vitamin B12 Deficiency Risks among People Following a Vegan Diet

Solea Beauty Lounge, a US-based premiere medical spa treatment provider is launching a call to action about the risks of Vitamin B12 deficiency or anemia among those following a vegan diet, in light of more and more people switching to a plant-based lifestyle. According to 2022 statistics, veganism has seen an increase in uptake of 500%, with now approximately 6% of Americans reporting that they follow a completely vegan diet.

Commenting on this, a key Solea Beauty Lounge spokesperson stated, ‘It is undeniable that going vegan holds not only health benefits such as decreasing the risk of diabetes and cancer, but it’s also an important step to take towards helping reduce carbon footprint and benefitting the planet. Yet, we want to raise awareness of doing the switch to a plant-based diet in a manner that is safe and healthy too and that takes into consideration other aspects and implications. Of note here is the risk of lowering your Vitamin B12 levels which is critically important in the production of red blood cells and maintaining an optimal functioning of the nervous system’.

Vitamin B12 is mainly found in meat, fish, eggs and dairy products, all which are excluded from a planet-based diet. Low or lack of vitamin B12 can lead to anemia, and if left untreated, can increase the risk to complications such as neurological or central nervous system problems or pregnancy complications.

‘One of the easiest and most effective ways to address the risk of low vitamin B12 levels are B12 shots. At Solea Beauty Lounge, we have been working tirelessly to emphasize the less known benefits associated with these injections and the opportunity to equip people following a vegan diet with the necessary tools to maintain their health. Our centers offer these as part of IV vitamin therapy or as a standalone treatment. While different on a case by case basis, the effects can typically last to up to 3 days after the initial shot. For more severe deficiency cases, 5-7 shots in the first week of treatment may be needed to help reach normal levels again. But B12 shots do not have to be a last resort when the damage has already been done. They can be taken as a preventive measure and preempt any further symptoms or complications – which is our call to action to everyone’, concluded the spokesperson.
