By: Get News

Tampa, FL – August 22, 2022 – Tampa will celebrate the life of legendary entertainer Gregory Jacobs, known as “Shock G” or “Humpty Hump,” of the alternative hip hop group digital underground at the “DooWutChyaLike Jam.” The free event takes place at Bastet Brewing, 1951 E. Adamo Drive, Tampa, FL 33605, Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 7 p.m. and will feature musical performances from local entertainers and DJs with a special appearance by digital underground group member Money-B.

Shock G, also known by his alter egos Humpty Hump, “Mr. Rackadelic” and “The Piano Man,” was an American hip hop artist and musician who was best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative hip hop group digital underground. He would have celebrated his 59th birthday this year on August 25th.   Most people don’t know he was originally from Tampa, FL. and attended Chamberlin High School and studied music theory at Hillsborough Community College. He played drums, piano, was a DJ and radio personality. He and digital underground group member Kenny K often appeared on the radio station WMNF.  Also a talented illustrator, Shock G designed album covers and marketing materials for digital underground and other artistic works.

Musically, he is best known for his alter ego, Humpty Hump on “The Humpty Dance,” which reached  #1 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart.  He would later produce “I Get Around” (2Pacalypse Now) and “So Many Tears” (Me Against The World) for Tupac Shakur and produced “Love Sign” (Crystal Ball) for Prince. Shock G also appeared in several television shows and films, including Showtime At the Apollo (1992), The Arsenio Hall Show (1990, 1994), MTV’s and Dan Aykroyd’s film “Nothing But Trouble” (1991), and many documentaries. He toured globally, making a guest appearance with good friend and mentor, George Clinton and P-Funk, at Woodstock (1999).

Shock G’s family will announce a foundation in his honor, ShockNation, whose goals will include giving back to the Tampa community through several programs currently being developed.  They also plan to educate future entertainers while preserving Shock G’s legacy.

In honor of Shock G’s birthday, the East Oakland Collective’s Feed The Hood and Community Kitchens held their 2nd annual community service event on August 13, 2022.  Local black and immigrant-owned restaurants prepared meals that were distributed to the unhoused in Oakland.

In Tampa this year, Bastet Brewing will introduce “Shock G Forever Beer,” brewed and manufactured in the city.  The “DooWutChayLike Jam” will be a wonderful evening of great music, food, dancing and entertainment.
