Siyi Chen might just be exploring more aspects of music communication among different genres of music as the passionate entertainer announces plans to release new works. The announcement is not surprising, as Siyi received the 2022 NYC Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre for her project titled New Shidaiqu.
“I’m very proud of myself for being able to stay true to myself while still learning new things and improving my project ideas. This is hard because the media music industry has its own set of rules, and I hope that my small efforts will encourage other people to do the same thing. My journey is still going on, and though I can’t say I’ve succeeded yet, I hope every artist can encourage themselves and think about their first idea; maybe this will help them keep going!” – Siyi Chen.
Music has been described as a language understood by everyone, irrespective of age, gender, or location and if anyone has the mastery of the universality of music, it is Siyi Chen. Over the years, the prolific artist and producer has ignited stages and captivated the audience across the world, scoring seven games, in which Hot Pot For One has been selected as one of the finalists for the BAFTA Student Awards for Immersive, and 21 indie video games to look forward to in 2021 in Polygon.
Siyi has been able to stand out for integrating Chinese music elements into American films, games, and other media, inspiring similar ethnic musicians to explore the effectiveness of cultural fusion. Her versatility, creativity, and ingenuity have caught the attention of big-name directors and game producers, including the award-winning Chinese animation director, Wenya Chen. Siyi was also selected for the Onebeat Virtual Residency in 2021, introducing traditional Chinese instrument guzheng and Chinese music elements to the residency. Her tutelage under film orchestrator Sonny Kompanek known for Three Kings, True-Grit, and Twilight: Breaking Dawn as well as Grammy-nominated producer, Tony Dofat, continues to show, honing her skills as a mutual composer, songwriter, and producer around the game and film industry.
Siyi Chen has devoted herself to 12 films, 8 games, and 1 commercial composition, with the films she scored nominated for several recognitions, including the Los Angeles Film Awards, Tokyo International Short Film Festival, London Music Video Festival, Los Angeles Short Film Festival, Cannes Short Film Corner, Tokyo Lift-off Film Festival, and a host of others.
