XFiles and Rumble In The Bronx cast member Carrie Cain Sparks will play The First Lady Of Song, Ella Fitzgerald in the upcoming biopic “Eartha Kitt C’est Si Bon.”Carrie Cain Sparks, the singer-actress known for her memorable roles in Jackie Chan’s Rumble In The Bronx, XFiles, The Man and many other major films, is joining the cast of Eartha Kitt C’est Si Bon. Carrie will play the role of the “First Lady Of Song”,” Ella Fitzgerald.
Eartha Kitt famously introduced Ella Fitzgerald to the audience at the Los Angeles jazz cabaret, Mocambo. They shared the same publicist, and so they often followed each other through the cabaret, club and theatrical circuit. They would often be seen on the same program, sometimes on the same day, but always in separate performances.
Ella Fitzgerald is remembered today as the “First Lady Of Song,” a title she earned by her unique vocal abilities. Her vocal stylings were often compared to horns, with fireworks that competed with those of Bebop instrumentalists like Dizzy Gillespie, with whom she worked with in her earlier career.
Carrie Cain Sparks is a good fit for Ella Fitzgerald. Carrie is often cast in roles which demand spectacular vocal ability, in addition to her acting chops. In Jackie Chan’s Rumble In The Bronx, for instance, Carrie had to perform traditional Cantonese opera with an authenticity that would please the demanding Chinese audience. For the same film, she wrote and composed her own song The One I Desire, which became a karaoke hit and is a favorite favorite wedding song until today.
Says director Shadow Dragu-Mihai, “Carrie is one of those rare artists whose voice stops all conversation in a room. All eyes turn to her when she begins singing, and her screen presence is just as strong. She is our only choice to play Ella Fitzgerald.”
Carrie Cain Sparks joins Star Trek Voyager’s Robert Beltran as Orson Welles, Kenan’s Dani Lane as Eartha Mae – the young Eartha Kitt and James Bond girl Trina Parks who appears as Loucile Ellis. Production has not said who has the title role. “Everyone wants to know who is playing Eartha Kitt. When we announce the truly talented woman who plays her, people will be intrigued, and they will end up being very happy.” Eartha Kitt C’est Si Bon is directed by Shadow Dragu-Mihai and Diamond Monique Washington, and is set to release in September, 2023.
