Built to support one of Africa’s oldest and most widely practiced financial traditions, EAA digitizes the tontine model by automating group placement, contribution collection, draw management, pot distribution, member communication, and transaction reporting.
The platform is designed for users across Africa, the African diaspora, and global communities that continue to rely on collective savings systems for financial cooperation, mutual support, and structured contribution cycles.
Modernizing a Longstanding Community Savings Practice
The tontine, also known in different regions as susu, njangi, ajo, chama, stokvel, arisan, chit fund, or paluwagan, is a traditional system in which members contribute regularly and take turns receiving the group fund.
EAA brings this model into a digital environment by automating core operational steps that are often handled manually. The platform manages contribution schedules, group participation, draw allocation, payment tracking, and distribution records through a technology infrastructure designed for transparency and consistency.
Transactions are supported by ACID database mechanisms and a ten-year audit trail, helping strengthen traceability and reduce administrative friction for community savings groups.
EAA is fully bilingual in French and English. The platform currently supports Mobile Money payments in Ghana through MTN MoMo, Vodafone Cash, and AirtelTigo, as well as cryptocurrency payments worldwide through NOWPayments.
EAA Transfer Adds Instant Member-to-Member Support
One of the platform’s key modules is EAA Transfer, an instant donation and transfer feature that allows members to send support to one another using a phone number, email address, or personal QR code.
Each transaction generates a service fee. Under EAA’s participation-based redistribution model, 50% of eligible weekly service fees are redistributed among active members who have completed their weekly contribution. The remaining 50% supports platform operations, maintenance, and continued development.
Redistribution is processed automatically each Sunday. Members receive a weekly email report summarizing donations sent, eligible fee share received, contribution streak, and cumulative platform activity since registration.
The model is intended to align platform usage with member participation, creating a community-centered fintech structure in which active members share in a portion of the platform’s recurring transaction activity.
Engagement Features Designed to Encourage Regular Participation
EAA includes progression features intended to support long-term savings discipline and member engagement. Members can progress through Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers, with higher tiers offering increased weighting for weekly redistribution eligibility.
The platform also includes an anonymous weekly leaderboard highlighting the ten most active members, while maintaining user privacy.
For transaction security, EAA uses a six-digit OTP code sent by email and valid for fifteen minutes. The platform also uses AI-supported fraud detection to monitor behavioral signals and identify suspicious activity in real time.
In addition, EAA offers a referral program through which members may receive 10% of eligible fees generated by a referred member for three months, credited automatically to the referrer’s wallet.
Production Milestone and Platform Infrastructure
Since its production launch, EAA reports 271 active members across multiple active tontine groups. The platform has completed 29 end-to-end validation tests and reports zero production incidents to date.
EAA operates on a FastAPI backend, a MongoDB Replica Set for atomic financial transactions, and GPT-4o-powered AI features for behavioral scoring and personalized member communication.
The company plans to continue expanding its technology infrastructure, payment integrations, and community tools as adoption grows across Africa and diaspora markets.
