HealthTrust Performance Group, a leading performance improvement organization with an exclusive membership of approximately 1,800 hospitals and 70,000+ non-acute sites of care, recently hosted HealthTrust members for a collaborative, two-day summit focused on the 340B program.
The 340B program, established by Congress in 1992, mandates drug manufacturers to offer discounts to certain federally-funded clinics and hospitals—known as “covered entities”—as part of their participation in Medicaid. This initiative allows these entities to stretch federal resources, reaching more patients and enhancing service offerings.
The HealthTrust 340B Summit, which took place August 11-12, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, was designed to bring together members to connect with manufacturers and wholesalers and learn more about future opportunities and challenges in the 340B landscape.
“The HealthTrust vision for the 340B Summit was to add value back to the members: to provide two days where they can hear from a wide variety of stakeholders within the 340B space,” explained HealthTrust Director of 340B Program Chris Yoder, MHA. “We carved out the second day of the summit to allow a roundtable discussion with those speakers, and then the members were able to ask some deeper questions and dive into some of the topics that weren’t discussed during the summit.”
Approximately 30 attendees heard panel discussions and participated in breakout groups focusing on:
- State and federal reform efforts;
- 340B opportunities and trends, tools and solutions;
- Drug supply chain security; and
- Best practices for third-party administration.
“Given all the innovation, scrutiny and activity around the program, we felt like now was the time to get our members together and engaged on how to navigate the complexity of the 340B program,” said Brian Moran, PharmD, HealthTrust Vice President of Pharmacy. “In preparing for the future, there may be challenges coming, but by bringing together the expertise of HealthTrust, our partners, and our members, we hope to create an environment to solve those problems together.”
Based on the positive feedback from summit participants, HealthTrust plans to host a second 340B Summit in 2025. HealthTrust is committed to helping its members navigate the 340B program. For more information or to inquire about HealthTrust 340B consultative services, visit healthtrustpg.com.
