Daniel Fisher’s award-winning composition “Fisher: Symphonina No. 2” redefines classical music for younger audiences with a fresh, modern format.

HOLLYWOOD, CA - Award-winning composer Daniel Fisher has earned top honors in the “Contemporary Classical” category at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards (HIMA) for his original composition “Fisher: Symphonina No. 2”, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The awards ceremony, held at the Avalon Hollywood, brought together an array of emerging and established talents from across the global music industry.

Fisher, whose compositions are performed and recorded by some of the world’s most renowned orchestras, accepted the award with heartfelt appreciation. He paid tribute to his Midwest roots, his family, and all those who supported his journey in music. “Thank you for this great honor and award,” said Fisher. “I want to thank my wife and my kids who've been supporting my musical habits for a long time … and the really wonderful team on this project.”

Fisher: Symphonina No. 2” is featured on the new album Ascension: Symphonina Rising, released by the Symphonina Foundation, an organization dedicated to introducing younger audiences to the vibrant world of symphonic music. The foundation’s work focuses on making orchestral compositions more accessible through innovation, composer competitions, giving musicians opportunities via its International Symphonina Orchestra, and community outreach.

The “Symphonina” format is the brain child of Dr. David Fogel (CEO of the Symphonina Foundation), which as Fisher explains is a fresh take on classical structure tailored for modern listeners. “The album symbolizes the rise and recognition of the ‘Symphonina’ as a new genre in the diverse world of classical music,” he said. “Where a traditional symphony might be 45 minutes long, a Symphonina is typically 10–12 minutes, still with 3 to 4 movements, each around the length of a typical streaming pop tune.”

This shortened format, Fisher believes, makes symphonic music more approachable to today’s audiences, especially younger generations who consume music on streaming platforms, cell phones, earbuds, and headphones. By offering a classical alternative in a more digestible format, the Symphonina bridges the gap between tradition and modern listening habits.

Fellow nominees in the Contemporary Classical category included the Dallas String Quartet and Russ Hewitt. Fisher’s recognition among such talent further solidifies his growing impact on the evolving classical music scene.

The Hollywood Independent Music Awards celebrate independent artists and composers across multiple genres and disciplines, recognizing originality, musicality, and cultural contribution. Winning this award represents a significant milestone in Fisher’s career and a spotlight on the potential for classical innovation.

With Ascension: Symphonina Rising now available, the Symphonina Foundation invites listeners worldwide to experience a modern evolution of the orchestral experience.
