‘KOCIS, Korean Culture Scene’ Enjoy Korean Culture in the UK from Performances to Exhibitions

‘Korean Culture Scene’, an International Korean cultural festival hosted by the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Cultural Centers in 6 countries, is presenting various Korean cultural programs overseas.

Under the name ‘Korean Culture Scene’, KOCIS is hosting an international Korean cultural festival with the Korean Cultural Centers in the UK, Belgium, Hungary, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam to showcase various events in order to promote diverse Korean culture around the world following last year. 

In the UK, as part of the Korean Culture Scene, various events have been underway since August 3rd in conjunction with the Edinburgh Festival, the world’s largest performing arts festival, and a variety of Korean cultural programs will be presented at the Stourbridge International Festival of Glass for 4 days from August 26th. 

The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) is participating and presenting Korean performances by 9 teams at the 75th Edinburgh Fringe and International Festival, which has been underway since the beginning of August. Until the 28th of August, the KCCUK will introduce 7 works to the “Korean Showcase”, which presents works of various genres such as theatre, puppetry, fusion Gugak (Korean Traditional Music), traditional performing arts, and modern dance, at the Edinburgh Fringe. Meanwhile, Pianists Cho Seong-jin and Wang Ramirez Company took the stage to receive acclaim at the International Festival. In addition, the KCCUK is hosting the “Korea House”, a Korean cultural experience center, and is promoting Korean culture through craft exhibitions, hanbok experiences, and screening events. The KCCUK also organized a K-pop walking tour and is providing the festival-goers with an opportunity to explore Korean culture in Edinburgh.

The International Festival of Glass, which is held every two years in Stourbridge, Midwest of England, highlights the works of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese artists under the theme of East Asia this year. During the festival, the KCCUK will host Korean culture experience classes, and ‘Korean Culture Night’ on Saturday, August 27th, to showcase a performance by a classic trio and Korean modern dancers, and a Hanbok fashion show with glasswork ornaments to promote Korean culture.

The Korean Culture Scene in the UK will be followed by Korean culture experience events, media art exhibitions, the London Korean Film Festival, Lancashire ‘Korea Day’ and Jeju Haenyeo exhibition, etc. in conjunction with ‘Hallyu! Korean Wave’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in September.
