The accomplished consultant and founder shares her insights on how modern operations can work to build community while being competitive.

FRONT ROYAL, VA, August 25, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan O. Schall, PhD, is the Founder and Lead Consultant at SOS Consulting, LLC. She has spent several years working in the field and has gained deep insight into the inner workings of manufacturing. She even wrote a book on healthy manufacturing that discusses the six essentials, including elements of people, process, and data. The book goes into detail about these subjects and how leaders can implement them together within manufacturing to create an organization that flourishes both internally and externally.

Schall details, "When I was a student, I never would have thought I'd be doing my own thing. It was never a plan. But I moved back to this area, and had a miserable job. I said, 'I can do better than this, and I can help people more than this.'"

This led her to strike out on her own and apply her knowledge in bold new ways.
Schall once had a small chemical manufacturing client in Kansas that thought they had a mature, high–quality system in place. However, when it came to internal operations and growing their business, they soon realized they didn't.

The leadership team didn't fully understand what was lacking; they only knew things weren't working and that they were having disputes about it. They recognized that they couldn't continue in that way if they wanted to grow. This proved to be an eye-opening experience for Schall, as she realized the gaps in small manufacturer's knowledge of the fundamentals to healthy manufacturing. This highlighted a larger issue to her: small manufacturers have been excluded from the economic development equation.

Today, Susan O. Schall works tirelessly to share her wisdom with others, to help as many manufacturers as she can.

She works with higher education and non-profits as well— because a healthy business should mean a healthy family and a healthy community, too.
