In 2024, U.S. News launched its first-ever Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers ratings to help patients identify high-quality outpatient surgical care. In its analysis, U.S. News evaluated 2,031 ambulatory surgery centers that perform colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures and reviewed outcomes for more than 3.14 million patients across two procedure types. Only 259 centers earned a High Performing rating, the publication's highest distinction.

The ratings are based entirely on three years of Medicare patient outcome data, including complication rates, emergency department visits and unplanned hospital admissions. No surveys or self-reported data were used. A High Performing rating indicates that a center consistently demonstrates strong patient safety and favorable clinical outcomes.
