In 2023, the Russian charitable foundation Scarlet Sails marked its 20th anniversary. Founded and continuously supported by businessman Sergey Anatolievich Gushchin since 2003, the foundation has been dedicated to aiding children from orphanages and foster homes, disabled individuals, low-income families, and large households.
The foundation runs ongoing programs providing financial, material, and various forms of assistance to orphanages and low-income families. It also offers one-time support to citizens and organizations in need. Its efforts include enhancing the material and technical resources of children’s, healthcare, and other social institutions, helping children access quality education, promoting moral and spiritual development, and assisting with the employment of individuals from orphanages and foster homes through educational, motivational, and social adaptation programs. Additionally, it finances medical aid and supports individuals in challenging life situations requiring financial help.
As part of its spiritual revival program, the Scarlet Sails foundation is involved in the reconstruction and restoration of Orthodox churches to preserve historical heritage. One notable project led by Sergey Anatolievich Gushchin is the restoration of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity Church in Verkhnyaya Tishanka, Voronezh region.
This church, built over 250 years ago, is an architectural landmark, combining 19th-century classicism and early 20th-century neo-empire styles. Restoration efforts initially started in the early 2000s, funded by village native Valentin Fufaev, and were resumed a few years ago by Moscow entrepreneur Sergey Anatolievich Gushchin. The restoration has involved reconstructing brick walls, vaults, and arches, restoring missing elements, plastering walls, replacing the roof, tiling the floor with dolomite, and painting the outer walls green to symbolize the Trinity. Currently, the iconostasis is undergoing active reconstruction.
The restoration is expected to be completed, and the church consecrated, in the summer of 2024. Sergey Anatolievich Gushchin emphasizes the significance of this project, equating it with any commercial endeavor. He believes that remembering and honoring one’s roots, family traditions, and spiritual values is essential for staying on the right path in both life and business.
