BLACKPOOL, England - Football coach Scott Rogers has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours in recognition of his services to disability sport, marking a significant milestone in a coaching career dedicated to expanding opportunities and raising standards within inclusive football.
The honour recognizes Rogers' contributions to the England Amputee National Football Team and his ongoing efforts to promote disability sport throughout the United Kingdom. His work has helped increase the visibility of amputee football while supporting the development of athletes competing at the highest international level.
Rogers joined the England Amputee National Football Team coaching staff in 2020 after more than two decades working in football development and education. Prior to entering international disability football, he served as a physical education teacher and held coaching positions within the youth academies of Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic, helping develop young players through professional football pathways.
Following his appointment to England's national amputee coaching staff, Rogers represented the team at the 2021 European Amputee Football Championships in Poland before contributing to England's campaign at the 2022 Amputee Football World Cup in Turkey.
He was appointed interim head coach in late 2022 before becoming the permanent head coach in 2023. Under his leadership, England captured the inaugural European Amputee Football Federation (EAFF) Nations League title in Kraków, Poland, finishing the tournament undefeated with victories over Poland, Spain, and defending European and world champions Turkey. The achievement marked England's first major international amputee football trophy in more than three decades and was later recognized by the National Football Museum.
Beyond international competition, Rogers has continued to advocate for disability sport through football media coverage, serving as a television pundit and match analyst for amputee football broadcasts while supporting greater public awareness of inclusive competition.
Speaking about receiving the honour, Rogers described the recognition as both unexpected and deeply meaningful.
"I am truly humbled and honoured to receive the British Empire Medal. This recognition isn't just about me, it's a reflection of the incredible players, coaching staff, volunteers, and everyone involved with the England Amputee National Team who have worked tirelessly to showcase what disability sport can achieve."
The Football Association also acknowledged Rogers as part of the 2026 King's Birthday Honours, recognizing his contribution to disability sport alongside other individuals honoured for their service to English football.
The British Empire Medal highlights Rogers' longstanding commitment to creating opportunities for athletes with disabilities while helping elevate the profile of amputee football both nationally and internationally. His coaching achievements continue to demonstrate the growing impact of inclusive sport and its ability to inspire participation, excellence, and wider public recognition.
