A St. Joseph personal injury law firm is offering free school supplies to K-12 children during a free community event July 29 at East Hills Shopping Center.
-- Patterson Legal Group will host a FREE backpack and school supplies giveaway for St. Joseph-area students on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at East Hills Shopping Center (3702 Frederick Ave, St. Joseph, MO 64506). The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., or while supplies last. Attendance is free and open to all school-aged children accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.
Patterson Legal Group’s St. Joseph event is the third stop on the firm’s 2026 summer giveaway tour, which spans four cities in Kansas and Missouri. The firm’s Missouri presence reflects its dedication to the communities it serves — both in the courtroom and beyond. Approximately 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed in total across all four locations.
Nearly 28% of children in St. Joseph live below the federal poverty line, according to recent U.S. Census data — a rate far exceeding state and national averages. At the same time, the National Retail Federation reports that K–12 back-to-school spending averaged $858 per household in 2025, with school supplies alone accounting for roughly $144 of that total. For the families of nearly one in three St. Joseph kids, those costs for the 2026 school year are significant.
