University Vision Centre Announces New Anti-Migraine Technology with Avulux Lenses

University Vision Centre now offers migraine relief with the new lens technology of Avulux, which is engineered to diminish the effects of migraines caused by light sensitivity. By using specially designed precision filters, Avulux reduces the incidence of light induced migraines that are caused by certain wavelengths of light. With the addition of Avulux lens technology to their large arsenal of eyewear and cutting-edge solutions, University Vision Centre highlights their commitment to providing innovative eye care to the El Paso community.

Highly customizable to various prescriptions and compatible with most new eyeglass frames, the science behind Avulux is based on various studies that have shown an association with red, blue, and amber light and the triggering pain that leads to migraines. As such, the precision filters block out 97% of these wavelengths, reducing the risk for light-sensitivity induced migraines.

“Avulux is an amazing solution for a common ailment,” said John Ellis II, O.D., an optometrist at University Vision Centre. “Migraines are incredibly painful to deal with, and with over 60% of them being caused by light sensitivity, Avulux was a logical and elegant solution that serves many patients’ needs. Now, when someone who suffers from migraines comes in, they can get a stylish pair of frames with Avulux lenses that are not only preventative but soothing as well.”

Avulux’s patented precision filtration lenses also allow over 70% of calming green light wavelengths to pass through and soothe the eyes. In scientific studies, green light was shown to minimize light sensitivity-induced pain, thus providing even more relief for patients with photophobia issues and migraines.

“Avulux employs the simple concept of light in versus light out,” continued Dr. Ellis. “And uses next-generation filters to make it feasible in a single lens. When I saw they were using precision filters instead of the typical grey ones, I was excited because those showed far more promise in clinical trials. It’s a nice thing for patients to have a nonpharmaceutical option that integrates seamlessly into their everyday lives.”

University Vision Centre is known in El Paso for their wide selection of eyewear and lens types. Avulux rounds out the list of options with its one-of-a-kind design, and as a nonmedical option to a common problem, it provides a further inlet for medical eye care at University Vision Centre.

“I know our patients will be really happy to hear about Avulux,” added Dr. Ellis. “We have such a great selection of eyewear at our practices, and now we have lens technology that can provide lifechanging relief for those who suffer from migraines. The lenses themselves are incredibly versatile. Patients can choose to wear them throughout the day, or just when they feel a migraine coming on. It’s the most effective kind of its type of technology yet. In Texas, we’re already used to getting a lot of light, so I’m interested to hear about how our patients use them in their day-to-day lives to find relief from their migraines.”

University Vision Centre is currently open and taking appointments for both new and existing patients.
