Garage Floor Coating Inland NW is calling out a pattern it sees driving the "1-day" garage floor coating market

Spokane, WA (PRUnderground) September 18th, 2026

Garage Floor Coating Inland NW is calling out a pattern it sees driving the "1-day" garage floor coating market: manufacturers and distributors cutting corners to save money, then dressing up the shortcut as innovation.

Eliminating a moisture-mitigating epoxy primer and installing a coating straight over bare concrete cuts material costs and labor time. It also removes the one layer engineered to make your coating last.

Cutting Corners Doesn't Hold Up in the Inland Northwest

The 1-day concrete coating model is attractive because contractors can complete more installations with less labor and product. To justify the shortcut, manufacturers promote claims such as "20 times stronger than epoxy," superior penetration, and greater impact resistance.

Claims of this magnitude should be supported by recognized, independently verifiable ASTM testing.

Because what is faster and more profitable to install is not better for the consumer. Especially in the Inland Northwest.

Spokane winters bring heavy snow load, repeated freeze-thaw swings, and de-icing chemicals tracked in on tires and boots. Combined with spring snowmelt saturating the ground around a home's foundation, that's a lot of moisture pressure for a coating with no epoxy base to absorb.

A rapid-cure polyaspartic (or similar) coating applied directly to concrete cures before it can properly bond to a slab carrying that kind of seasonal moisture, leaving a garage floor coating that's cosmetically fine on day one and structurally compromised within a few winters.

"There is nothing wrong with polyaspartic technology, we use it extensively ourselves," said Robert G. Hanson, President and CEO of Garage Floor Coating Franchise System Inc. "The problem is where it's being used. Rapid-cure polyaspartics and polyureas belong on top of the system, not directly on the concrete."

What Your Warranty May Not Actually Cover

Homeowners should read past the years printed on a garage floor coating warranty and check what it excludes. Many 1-day warranties leave out:

  • Moisture vapor transmission and hydrostatic pressure

  • Plasticizer migration (permanent tire staining)

  • Chemical staining and discoloration

  • Premature wear

These are the exact failures a corner-cutting system is most likely to produce.

Applicators Are Being Sold the Same Story

It isn't only homeowners hearing inflated claims. Many contractors installing 1-day systems are relying on the same manufacturer talking points, drawn in by lower labor costs and faster turnover.

Moisture-related failures, tire staining, and premature wear often don't surface for months or years, and by then an applicator may already have dozens or hundreds of floors installed on the same shortcut.

Garage Floor Coating Inland NW continues to call for independent testing of the penetration, adhesion, and strength claims being promoted--real numbers homeowners and applicators alike can actually verify.

Competition and innovation benefit the coatings industry. Unsupported technical claims do not.
