BALTIMORE, MD, August 04, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A novel combining religion and spirituality with mystery and suspense, called "50 Parachutes for 72 Virgins" was recently published by first-time author Richard D. Greensfelder of Maryland.

"The title comes from the number of clerics assembled for a peace summit to help bring back the world to regaining a conscience." Greensfelder said. "The 50 parachutes reference refers to a futuristic escape plan for the Sears Tower in Chicago known as "Plan Z," the plan if all else fails."

"50 Parachutes for 72 Virgins" is a tale as old as time. A Tolkien-ish tale of good vs. evil, love and forgiveness battle hate and revenge once again. The story is a classic example of when all that is good in the world comes together to fight evil.

The main character, Archbishop Rooney, is an old school, old hoot who doesn't pull any punches as he offers his suggestions as to what is wrong with our world today. He looks at the world drifting away from God at an alarming pace, and feels that a world devoid of conscience is a dangerous place.

Archbishop Rooney has organized a Peace Summit with 12 Christians, 12 Hebrews, 12 Muslims, 12 Buddhist, 12 Hindus, and 12 Atheists in attendance.

The Peace Summit is scheduled in Chicago at the Sears Tower's Skydeck just a few days before Christmas, a time when there is always magic and the Spirit of Love in the air. The Archbishop hopes that the Peace Summit is the first step toward peace in the world however, terrorists have other plans.

Rooney longs for the "God Old Days" (G.O.D.) when a neighborhood was indeed a neighborhood. The Archbishop points to the year "1963" as the most critical year when prayer was inadvertently banned from public schools. Archbishop Rooney ask his sidekick, Fr. Tommy Schaefer, a rhetorical question, "Do you think 13 trillion "The Lord's Prayers" would have made a difference? Damn right they could have!"

The Archbishop coined a phrase many years ago that is sadly coming into fruition, "Evil fills the void whenever God is pushed away." The novel is a wake-up call for a country drifting away from God.

"I have written the book to remind folks about what made the 'The Good Old Days,'" Greensfelder said. "Love, sound values, the truth, forgiveness, charity, helping others, etc. are virtues that make this world a better place for our children and our children's children. It's a call to move back closer to God where we all are safer."

Richard D. Greensfelder retired as a Director of Admissions at a private school and resides in Baltimore with his wife and children. He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore, where he was part of a National Championship soccer team in 1975. Greensfelder is a devout Catholic and hopes his stories will inspire readers to be more caring of others and make the world a better, safer place.
