According to the latest New York State Department of Health’s Consumer’s Guide to Medicaid and Child Health Plus Managed Care Plans, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield saw a significant jump in ratings in multiple, high priority categories.

Overall, Anthem was one of the highest scoring Medicaid plans in New York, achieving increases for both Cardiovascular and Maternal Care, while Adult Care increased from 2 to 5 Stars. More stars translate to better healthcare for the 555,000 Medicaid enrollees served by Anthem.

“The increase in ratings is further proof that Anthem’s whole health approach to care is effective. We work tirelessly with our members, their providers and the communities where they live to ensure that each and every member receives the highest quality of care,” said Mark Levy, President and CEO Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “We understand the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare for all which is why we take a whole health approach to wellness, addressing not only physical health but also mental and social well-being,” he added.

Whole Health is a person-centered approach that integrates members’ physical, social, pharmacy, and behavioral needs to proactively address the wide-ranging factors that contribute to equitable health outcomes.

“Our dedication to this approach has been recently recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) with our Health Equity Accreditation Plus which recognizes Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s commitment to health equity, prioritizing the needs of socioeconomic marginalized individuals at the highest risk for adverse health outcomes,” said Sami Widdi, Medicaid Quality Management Health Plan Senior Director, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

The 2020 Consumer’s Guide rates plans on 10 distinct measures across three categories – Preventive and Well-Care for Adults and Children, Quality of Care Provided to members with Illnesses, and Patient Satisfaction with Access and Services – ultimately resulting in an Overall Rating of 0 to 5 stars.
