TTS brings another way to follow chosen stories, with source-specific reading workflows rather than a replacement audiobook catalog

CastReader offers full-text listening for supported digital reading, including accessible AO3 stories and compatible Kindle books, and publishes browser-reading guidance for Wattpad. The text-to-speech (TTS) product gives readers another way to approach stories already on their reading lists, with availability depending on the source and reading workflow.

For readers of long fiction, the goal is often to stay with the story rather than finish a summary. A conversation between characters, a change in perspective, or the gradual development of a relationship may be what makes a chapter worth reading. Hearing the original text preserves that sequence instead of replacing it with an account of the main events.

Follow the Story on Each Site

On supported Archive of Our Own pages, known as AO3, CastReader can read accessible story text aloud. Readers can use the listen to AO3 route to start with the work they want to continue. This can suit a walk or simple household chores when sitting with the page is inconvenient. The selected story remains the source of the narration.

That is relevant when a particular work has no separately recorded version. A reader may be following an author’s series or a story recommended by friends; another title is not necessarily a substitute. TTS offers an alternative presentation of the chosen text, rather than a dramatized performance or a rewritten adaptation. Names, dialogue, and prose are still part of the experience the reader evaluates.

For Wattpad, CastReader’s published guidance describes trying a desktop browser workflow on an accessible story part in Chrome or Edge. Readers should begin with a short passage and check that the narration matches the visible prose. The guidance does not establish universal compatibility across Wattpad layouts, and automatic continuation to the next part is not supported; the next part must be opened manually.

These source differences matter for long fiction. A successful reading of one chapter should not be taken as a guarantee that every subsequent part will work. CastReader does not unlock restricted material, and normal access requirements still apply. The practical starting point is a story the reader already has permission to access, with the actual reading experience checked on that source.

Keep the Books Already on the Shelf

Readers who want to listen to Kindle books can use a supported browser setup with Kindle Cloud Reader. CastReader also supports Kindle bookshelf syncing in its mobile app and listening to compatible books. For someone moving between web fiction and ebooks, these routes start with material already selected. Support does not cover every Kindle title or unlock digital rights management protections; readers still need access to the books.

For a reader with a novel already on the Kindle shelf, the first check is whether that specific book can be reached through the chosen workflow. If it can, the reader can try a passage and decide whether the narration suits the prose. Someone moving between that book and a Wattpad serial should also account for opening each new Wattpad part manually.

Use Explanation When the Reading Calls for It

The same reader may also have papers or reports to work through. CastReader’s AI Explain combines spoken explanations with visual notes and moving pen marks, offering an introduction when understanding the material is the immediate challenge. Fiction can remain a full-text experience, while informational reading can begin with an overview. Important details in AI explanations should be checked against the source.

The standard annual CastReader Pro website plan costs US$35.99, billed once per year; prices vary by platform and region. Readers can choose full-text listening for a chapter and reserve AI Explain for a report when its main ideas need an introduction.
