EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, Oct. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) today reported financial results for the third quarter, which ended September 27, 2026. “NXP delivered third-quarter revenue of $3.8 billion, up 19 percent year-on-year and 8 percent sequentially. Our performance was driven by accelerating contributions from our company-specific growth drivers in automotive and industrial as well as continued momentum in data center infrastructure. Strong profitability leading to free cash flow generation enables NXP to invest in innovative solutions and expand manufacturing capabilities that support our long-term growth objectives, while continuing to return capital to shareholders through our newly announced $5 billion share repurchase authorization. Looking ahead, we see significant opportunities as software-defined vehicles drive increasing demand for our next-generation solutions, while data center infrastructure and Trusted Physical AI applications create new vectors for long-term growth,” said Rafael Sotomayor, NXP President and Chief Executive Officer.

Revenue growth

A company’s top-line performance is one signal of its overall business quality. Strong growth can indicate it’s riding a successful new product or emerging trend. NXP Semiconductors’ annualized revenue growth rate of 3.3% over the last two years was sluggish for a semiconductor business. Semiconductors are a cyclical industry, and long-term investors should be prepared for periods of high growth followed by periods of revenue contractions.

NXP Semiconductors quarterly revenue

Long-term growth is the most important, but short-term results matter for semiconductors because the rapid pace of technological innovation (Moore’s Law) could make yesterday’s hit product obsolete today. NXP Semiconductors’ recent performance shows its demand has slowed as its annualized revenue growth of 3.3% over the last two years was below its five-year trend. Decelerating revenue growth in the sector warrants caution, as it could signal changing consumer tastes aided by low switching costs. NXP Semiconductors year-on-year revenue growth

This quarter, NXP Semiconductors reported year-on-year revenue growth of 19.3%, and its $3.79 billion of revenue exceeded Wall Street’s consensus estimates by 0.5%. Beyond the beat, this marks 4 straight quarters of growth, implying that NXP Semiconductors is in the middle of its cycle – a typical upcycle generally lasts 8-10 quarters. Company management is currently guiding for a 15.4% year-on-year increase in revenue next quarter.

Looking further ahead, sell-side analysts expect revenue to grow 13.6% over the next 12 months, according to S&P. While this projection suggests its newer products and services will spur better top-line performance, it is still below average for the sector.

Product demand & outstanding inventory

Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO) is an important metric for chipmakers, as it reflects a business’s capital intensity and the cyclical nature of semiconductor supply and demand. In a tight supply environment, inventories tend to be stable, allowing chipmakers to exert pricing power. Steadily increasing DIO can be a warning sign that demand is weak, and if inventories continue to rise, the company may have to downsize production.

This quarter, NXP Semiconductors’ DIO came in at 148, which is 12 days above its five-year average. These numbers suggest that despite the recent decrease, the company’s inventory levels are higher than in the past.

Key takeaways from NXP Semiconductors’s Q3 results

Improved inventory levels and EPS above Wall Street’s consensus estimates were positives for NXP Semiconductors this quarter, but its revenue guidance for next quarter fell slightly short of expectations. That made for a mixed quarter overall. The market seemed to be hoping for more, and shares tumbled 9% to $232.08 immediately after the report.

When assessing NXP Semiconductors at its current price, the latest quarter matters, but not nearly as much as longer-term fundamentals and valuation. Read our full research report here (it’s free).
