What happened?
Shares of electric vehicle charging company EVgo (NASDAQ: EVGO) jumped 53.9% in the morning session after LS Power Equity Advisors submitted a buyout proposal to acquire all outstanding shares of the company's (EVgo’s) Class A common stock not already owned by the firm (LS Power Equity Advisors) for $2.00 per share in cash.
A regulatory filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that LS Power Equity Advisors, LLC, acting on behalf of itself and affiliated entities, delivered the takeover bid directly to EVgo's board of directors. The filing indicated that affiliated LS Power entities and David Nanus may be deemed beneficial owners sharing voting power over the company's common stock.
Cash buyout proposals frequently ignite investor enthusiasm by establishing an immediate valuation benchmark and signaling strong institutional interest in the business. When an existing major stakeholder moves to take a firm private, investors often anticipate that the proposed premium will support higher near-term valuations.

What is the market telling us
EVgo’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 53 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for EVgo and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 6 days ago when the stock gained 11.3% on the news that the Federal Reserve opened its two-day meeting with the 10-year Treasury yield at 4.995%, and futures priced roughly a 90% chance that rates stay in the current 3.75%–4% range, as reported by CNBC.
September durable-goods orders rose 1.8%, a touch above the 1.7% gain economists polled by Dow Jones had expected. The decision comes later in the week, and Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference is where investors will listen for any sign of another hike before year-end. In addition to policy anticipations, resilient corporate updates reinforced market optimism, highlighted by United Parcel Service lifting its full-year guidance following better-than-expected profit results. Together, anticipation surrounding interest rate stability and robust corporate performance fueled widespread optimism across Wall Street.
EVgo is down 40.4% since the beginning of the year, and at $1.84 per share, it is trading 53.1% below its 52-week high of $3.91 from November 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of EVgo’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $178.16.
